Aequs and Indian Institute of Technology Dharwad have launched an advanced materials research and development ecosystem at the IIT Dharwad campus to strengthen innovation in materials science and manufacturing technologies.
The newly established facility will support advanced material characterisation, failure analysis, manufacturing process simulation and optimisation, aimed at enhancing industry-academia collaboration in precision-driven manufacturing domains.
According to the company, the initiative is expected to lay the foundation for a dedicated “IIT Dharwad – Aequs Research and Development Center” in the coming months. The proposed centre will focus on accelerating applied research, fostering innovation and bridging the gap between laboratory science and industrial applications.
Commenting on the development, Aravind Melligeri, Executive Chairman and CEO of Aequs Ltd., said the partnership reflects the company’s long-term commitment towards strengthening India’s advanced manufacturing ecosystem through investments in research, innovation and skill development.
He added that the collaboration would enhance IIT Dharwad’s applied research capabilities and industry engagement while also helping Aequs develop cutting-edge products for its global customers.
Prof. Venkapayya R. Desai, Director of IIT Dharwad, said the operationalisation of the advanced materials R&D facility marks an important step in strengthening industry-aligned research at the institute. He noted that the collaboration would provide students and researchers direct exposure to real-world manufacturing challenges while enabling meaningful contributions to industrial innovation.
The centre is expected to generate detailed insights into material behaviour and failure mechanisms, helping improve product quality, reliability and manufacturing efficiency, especially for high-precision industries.
Apart from research activities, the facility will also conduct hands-on training programmes for engineers, researchers and students, focusing on advanced analysis of metals and non-metals. Aequs said it would continue supporting the centre through technical assessments, equipment performance monitoring and maintenance oversight.
Aequs is a vertically integrated precision component manufacturer with operations across aerospace and consumer sectors. The company serves global OEM customers through engineering-led manufacturing ecosystems spread across multiple continents.
IIT Dharwad, meanwhile, is among India’s emerging premier engineering institutions and has been actively expanding its research and industry collaboration initiatives across advanced technology domains.
