Bharat Forge arm breaks ground on ₹1,500 crore defence manufacturing facility

Bharat Forge Limited subsidiary Kalyani Strategic Systems Ltd (KSSL) has announced the groundbreaking of a strategic defence manufacturing facility through its wholly owned arm Agneyastra Energetics Limited in Andhra Pradesh.
The upcoming integrated manufacturing campus will be developed near Madakasira in Sri Sathya Sai district with a planned investment of ₹1,500 crore over the next two to four years.
According to the company, the project will span more than 1,000 acres and will focus on advanced energetics, ammunition systems and aerospace applications aimed at strengthening India’s indigenous defence manufacturing ecosystem.
Agneyastra Energetics said the facility will include advanced manufacturing technologies, specialised logistics infrastructure and high-safety testing capabilities to support next-generation defence and aerospace systems.
The company added that the project is expected to generate around 800 direct jobs and nearly 2,500 indirect employment opportunities, while contributing to regional economic growth in Andhra Pradesh.
Bharat Forge Chairman and Managing Director Baba Kalyani said India has a significant opportunity to emerge as a global trusted source for advanced defence systems and critical materials.
He noted that Agneyastra Energetics represents a strategic step toward building a strong indigenous energetics ecosystem and globally competitive manufacturing capabilities from India for domestic as well as international markets.
The company said the initiative aligns with the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision and is aimed at reducing dependence on imported energetics materials through indigenous development and manufacturing.
Kalyani Strategic Systems is the dedicated defence business arm of Bharat Forge and operates across defence manufacturing, artillery systems, aerospace and strategic engineering solutions.
Agneyastra Energetics specialises in advanced ammunition, propellants, rockets and pyrotechnic systems for defence, aerospace and space applications.
