Tata Communications appoints Ganapathi S. Lakshminarayanan as MD & CEO

Tata Communications Ltd on Wednesday announced the appointment of Ganapathi S. Lakshminarayanan as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer for a five-year term beginning May 20, 2026. The appointment is subject to shareholder approval.

In a regulatory filing, the company said Lakshminarayanan has also been appointed as an Additional Director on the board. There are no inter-se relationships between him and any other director of the company, Tata Communications added.

Lakshminarayanan, also known as “Ganesh”, was earlier appointed as Managing Director and CEO-Designate by the board on January 21, 2026. Prior to joining Tata Communications, he served as MD and Group Vice President for ServiceNow India and SAARC, where he was responsible for driving market growth in the region.

Before ServiceNow, he was the CEO of Airtel Business in India and also led Airtel’s Enterprise Business unit. The filing noted that he has over 30 years of international management experience across multinational corporations, B2B startups and Indian enterprises.

Academically, Lakshminarayanan holds an MBA from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and a BS in Computer Science and Engineering. He was also a gold medallist from Guindy Engineering College in Chennai.

The company further stated that he has served on the NASSCOM executive council twice, was part of the FICCI council, and is a founding member of Social Venture Partners Bengaluru.

Tata Communications said the appointment became effective from May 20, 2026, and will continue till May 19, 2031.
