Shares of Fractal Analytics fell sharply in Wednesday’s trade as investors reacted to the expiry of the company’s pre-listing shareholder lock-in period.
The stock declined more than 7% intraday to hit a low of ₹913.45 on the NSE before trading around ₹954.90, down nearly 8% from the previous close. Selling pressure in the counter intensified amid concerns over potential increase in tradable supply following the lock-in expiry.
According to a lock-in analysis report by Nuvama Alternative & Quantitative Research, Fractal’s lock-in period opened on May 13, 2026. The report indicated that around 6.9 million shares, equivalent to nearly 4% of the company’s total outstanding equity, became eligible for trading after the expiry. At Wednesday’s market price of around ₹954.90 per share, the total value of shares becoming eligible for trading after the lock-in expiry stood at nearly ₹659 crore.
The company’s IPO issue size was around ₹2,830 crore.
Lock-in periods typically restrict pre-IPO shareholders, early investors and certain insiders from selling shares immediately after listing. Once the restriction period ends, markets often closely monitor whether existing investors may look to partially monetise holdings, which can create short-term supply pressure on the stock.
However, the expiry of the lock-in period does not necessarily mean all eligible shares will be sold in the market immediately. It only allows shareholders to trade those shares if they choose to do so.
Market participants noted that the sharp decline in Fractal shares on Wednesday appeared linked to concerns around additional floating stock potentially entering the market.
The stock also witnessed elevated sell-side activity during the session, with traders reacting to the unlocking event. Investors generally track lock-in expiries carefully, especially in recently listed technology and high-growth companies where early institutional or venture investors may hold sizeable stakes.
