Metal stocks rise on May 14 as Vedanta, Maithan Alloys, NALCO, SAIL and MOIL gain in early trade

Indian metal sector stocks opened on a positive note on May 14, 2026, with broad-based buying visible across steel, aluminium, zinc and mining counters during the early morning session.
The broader market also traded mildly higher. As of around 9:50 AM, the Nifty 50 was up 0.25% at 23,471.45, while the S&P BSE Sensex gained 0.21% to 74,762.35.
Among metal stocks, Vedanta emerged as one of the top performers. The stock rose 3.39% on the BSE to Rs 334.05 and gained 2.57% on the NSE. Maithan Alloys also witnessed strong buying interest, advancing 3.04% on the BSE to Rs 1,017.
National Aluminium Company gained 2.69% on the BSE to Rs 419.30, while Jain Resource Recycling rose 2.55% to Rs 583.05. MOIL also traded higher, rising 2.37% to Rs 313.35.
Other notable gainers in the sector included Steel Authority of India, which was up 2.21%, along with Hindalco, NMDC, JSW Steel, Tata Steel, Coal India and Jindal Steel & Power.
On the losing side, APL Apollo Tubes was the only major metal sector stock trading in the red. The stock declined 1.71% on the BSE to Rs 1,858.70 and was down 2.26% on the NSE.
Welspun Corp saw limited movement, trading with a marginal gain in the range of 0.28% to 0.55%.
Overall, the metal sector displayed positive momentum in early trade on May 14, with most stocks trading higher. Vedanta, Maithan Alloys, National Aluminium Company, MOIL and Steel Authority of India led the gains, while APL Apollo Tubes remained the key laggard in the sector.
