PB Fintech shares remained in focus on May 20 after Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) Chairman Debasish Panda said a consultation paper on insurance distribution reforms will be released within the next three to four weeks.
PB Fintech, the parent company of Policybazaar, was trading at ₹1,818.10 in early trade, up 0.74% on the NSE. The stock touched an intraday high of ₹1,819.30 during the session.
Speaking in an exclusive interaction with CNBC-TV18, the IRDAI chairman said the regulator is preparing a broad framework outlining the future direction of insurance distribution reforms, after which stakeholder feedback will be invited.
The proposed reforms are being closely tracked by investors as online insurance distributors and aggregators such as Policybazaar could be directly impacted by changes in commission structures, distribution practices and digital insurance frameworks.
The IRDAI chairman also said that a consultation paper on the proposed Public Insurance Registry (PIR) will likely be released by mid-June.
According to the regulator, the PIR initiative is expected to help reduce mis-selling in the insurance ecosystem while also enabling insurers to improve underwriting quality through better data visibility and policy tracking.
The developments come at a time when digital insurance platforms continue to witness rapid growth amid increasing online adoption and regulatory push towards transparency and wider insurance penetration.
PB Fintech has remained one of the key listed plays in India’s online insurance and fintech ecosystem, with investors closely monitoring regulatory developments around insurance distribution and commissions.
The stock has touched a 52-week high of ₹1,978 and a low of ₹1,364. In Wednesday’s session, over 3.15 lakh shares changed hands on the NSE.
